Alexander Miles who is known to have invented an elevator door device was born in 1838 in Ohio. His mechanism abolished the need of shutting an elevator door manually. In his early days he was a barber in Waukesha, Wisconsin where he married a white woman Candace J. Dunlap and after the birth of daughter Grace the family shifted to Duluth, Minnesota.
